Natural Remedies For Eliminating Cold Sores

David Paule

An estimated 80% of Americans are infected with the Herpes simplex virus type 1 which is more familiarly called cold sores or fever blisters. Cold sores are most commonly found on the mouth or lips but can exist nearly anywhere on the face. Although infected with the HSV1 Virus, it does not necessarily mean you will show the symptoms. Cold sores are spread by having contact with someone else infected by the virus. Once infected with the virus, it will never go away. However, this does not mean you will always exhibit cold sores or fever blisters. Most outbreaks occur due to a suppressed immune system that can be caused by a number or reasons include sickness.

Cold sores may be irritating and the victim may feel humiliated when other people look at it. There are many over the counter medications for cold sore treatment, but most of them are made from harsh chemical which could leave a spot after treatment and they also show side effects like allergy. But there are many natural cold sore treatments and home remedies. Tea bag is one of the effective ways to reduce the severity of the blisters.

Of all of the remedies available, licorice root, combined with warm water is known to be an effective Cold Sore Treatment. Another effective remedy is milk, or more specifically high fat milk. Milk contains monocaprin which helps fight the virus, helping to reduce swelling of the blister. It can also reduce other visible cold sore symptoms.

Other home remedies such as lemon have also known to be effective if used in the early stages of the cold sore. You can either use real lemon juice or even the convenient sprays that can be found at most supermarkets. Applying the lemon juice to a budding cold sore can help to speed up the treatment. However, you do not want to apply the lemon juice to an open blister because it can cause irritation and even swelling, making the cold sore more visible. Like lemon, garlic is also an effect treatment for the herpes simplex virus. Also like lemon, you want to use it in the earlier stages and not on an open sore because of the potential of burning and irritation.

Home Cold Sore Remedies have proven to be very effective and they are usually much cheaper and safer than over the counter medications. By choosing any of the home remedies above, blisters can be healed perfectly without any side effects.
